Is this smoke unit voltage-regulated such that it will survive in the tmcc environment...or will it melt down in continuous exposure to that voltage?

I've done a number of TMCC conversions using PS-1 smoke units. They work fine for me as is.
The PS/1 smoke unit has a voltage regulator to moderate the smoke based on the voltage, it'll run fine in a TMCC environment.

+1. I converted an early Premier Baldwin AS-616 to ERR Cruise Commander and Railsounds Commander. Used the PS1 smoke unit (hooked to the ERR board for smoke unit on/off with the remote). Works fine.
Just to clarify...it's going to see 18-20 volts at the input...not power from tmcc...it's an old mrh railking challenger.
That's the concern...as long as the regulator on the smoke unit board can tolerate that voltage on a regular basis...
Stick a series diode in the power to the smoke unit.
