PS2 upgrade

Mike, here are photos of one of the PS2 upgrades I did.  It's a smaller early diesel so would probably be similar to the one you're considering.

Several upgrades are shown on my website.

This MTH 20-2082-1 was upgraded because it was my first MTH engine.

Mike,  MTH only does repairs not upgrades.  I do them if you don't want to tackle it, comes with warranty since I am an MTH Tech.  G

I'm tired of having my TMCC command equipped J1E fail every few months. My PS2 engines have been running great for years. I'd like to have the TMCC command control replaced with PS2 in that engine. Can you perform this surgery?

If so, how much and where are you located. I'd like to discuss this with you since I have other upgrades I'd like to have done.

i highly recommend GGG. He has helped me successfuly on serveral occasions. In fact he just diagnosed a problem I had after upgrading a Big Boy from PS1 to PS2.

George is the best.  I have done that GP-20 and it is a slam dunk.  A very good engine to start with.  As with all DCS upgrades, some locomotives do have an issue.  I suggest to anyone who is going to do a certain locomotive to throw it out on the OGR forum and I am sure someone has done what he wants to do.  Some engines  do have an issue and it is always good to know what you might be dealing with.

Upgrades do go well if you follow the book.  It is always a good idea to talk to people who have actually done them. 

Another option is to wait and see how the PS3 kit plays out. Based on the tidbits I pick up on OGR, it appears MTH will first come out with the diesel version.  There have been many other threads about PS3 vs. PS2 from a feature perspective but IMO a deciding factor is I'd want to install current production technology vs. one that is in the support phase. 

Note that, at least for PS2 upgrade ktis, the designations of steam and diesel are not hard and fast.  When I upgraded a Weaver 0-6-0, I used a diesel kit because I needed 2 couplers. Since the loco was so small, I had no use for the tether that comes with a steam kit.

Either can take either type of sound unit, so that you can have a chugging diesel or a diesel rumble from your stemer (ugh!)

The boards are identical in the steam and diesel kits, it's just the assortment of lights, wires, tethers, and couplers that change.
