Thinking about dumping my Legacy set in favor of the CAB1L. I like the simplicity of the system and will be able to have two remotes and some cash left over after selling the Legacy set.

Have a couple of questions:

Is it basically plug and play? Just disconnect my Legacy base and connect the  Cab1L base?

Does it come with the DB9 cable to connect to my DZ Data Wire Driver like the Legacy system does? Or will I need to purchase a serial cable?

Will I need to reprogram all my switches and routes?

Guessing I just address the engines by their number and not storing anything in the CAB1L base. Is this correct.

Thanks for the information. It will help me decide which direction to go in.

Hi Ed. I used the Cab 1L at Edison this weekend and I quickly noticed the differences. No toggling between 2 ENG IDs. No scrolling or searching to find the ID of one of your co-demonstrators engines when he wasn't there. No screen to see what engine you're on after spending time explaining something to one of the show attendees.

No quilling whistle until you read the book and realize you have to set it for each engine. (LOL who needs directions)

I did feel safer letting little kids hold the Cab 1L than the Cab 2.

To answer your questions, it's plug and play, it has a serial port but you'll need a cable or plug the DZ driver right into the cab 1L, I don't think you'll have to reprogram the switches, remember engine numbers like the cab 1.

IMHO I think it's a step back if you are using Legacy.

Ed,

Keep the Legacy system. You are going backwards getting the Cab-1L unless you like the simple cab-1 as they almost act like the same with a few enhancements. Cab-2 provides you with many more features. I have the cab-2 and really like it for what it provides even though I still like the trusty ole cab-1 works every time you use it. And I'm not denigrating the cab-2.
