I think you would be right. Ross makes such a switch.
Yes wyes would work. Be sure to check out ROSS curved turnouts! These are great space savers!

No jolt if you use 072 or #5 or #6 switches. Space saving, yes. Gives you a tear drop look with an immediate circle. It really depends where your loop is located and the space that's available.
