R2LC-08 strange problem

R2LCs do fail. I have replaced a number of them. If the problem was intermittent I would take a close look at all the solder pads and touch them up even if they look OK.

I was wondering why it works fine on the bench but not on the layout. why it works ok in one engine and not the other.

I hate to say it, but sometimes that seems to be quirks with TMCC based systems.  I do not know if as they age component tolerances shift.  Or just some differences in components engine to engine.  R2LC C08 is a good stable board.  What board was in the NW-2 originally, was it a ERR R4LC C08?  G

I had that intermittent stopping, etc. with a TMCC EER installation. Replacing the R2LC with a different code version fixed it. I forget which.

I believe I have it fixed, the pick up rollers were sparking quite a bit so I replaced the springs. A lot less sparking now, and no more problems with engine stopping randomly. Maybe the sparking was causing rf interference?

Are you saying you replaced the springs on pickup rollers???

Yes, I think after 69 years the old ones were getting weak.

Where did you find new springs?   Any pictures.  

They are not original, I dug through a box full of old springs my father had amassed over his lifetime, found two that I was able to make work.  The hard part was finding  a spring wound clockwise and one wound counter clockwise.  I had to cut and bend the ends some,  but they work great. I would have to take the pickup collector apart to get a good picture, springs aren't that visible from bottom. My father allways held on to things that might come in useful someday, I'am glad he did in this case.
