Gotta love those early  sheet metal gondolas and hoppers from Railcraft.  Some of these kits were well soldered and others were not.  Some were never completed.

They were produced in Webster Grove, Mo.  I heard a rumor that the brain child of Railcraft was a high school industrial arts instructor, and these kits were actual metal shop projects.  Is THAT true?  Railcraft history is rather vague and sketchy.

With all the 'O' Scale geniuses out there, I am hoping to find out further info about Railcraft 'O' Scale rolling stock.  What was the time span of Railcraft? When did production begin?  Were there other rolling stock besides the ubiquitous gondolas and a few hopper car versions?

Didn't Railcraft switch to brass at some point?  My attraction to Railcraft first of all is the uniqueness, secondly, I like the relatively low prices these models sell for.

I like to take these hoppers and gondolas and hammer the insides a little bit so the exterior sides sport that realistic battered look.  It bugs me that gondolas  and hoppers----diecast and plastic  NEVER have that realistic "rumpled" look of hard working abused rail cars.  Worse if they are weathered but undented.

What are YOUR experiences with Railcraft?    -Salty Rails-
