RANT TIME!!!

FedEx was suppose to deliver my unpainted pilot S2 steam turbine today and (naturally) they did not claiming I was not home at the time. However, I was and was up waiting for them at the time they claimed they came to my house to deliver it...no one ever came to my door, left a "delivery attempted" slip, or anything.
So now I have to take other steps just to get my model back.

On a happier note, I have made my final decision on what I'm going to get from the new Lionel catalog, which I talk about here also.

Enjoy!

What you need to do Stirling, is ask your FedEx driver (and UPS) for his cell phone number. Once you get to know them and tip them once in a while, they'll bend over backwards to get your package to you. Let them know when your expecting something your in a hurry for or when something is coming in that is fragile, and they will call you first thing in the morning and arrange to meet you somewhere along their route. This way the item isn't getting bounced around in their truck all day and they don't have to stop and knock on your door. Most times they will meet you at a business where they stop at daily. I worked for UPS as a driver helper during the Christmas ordering months and it is unbelievable how much work is piled on these guys and how fast you have to move in order to not go over the allowable hours they can drive in a day. It's not all delivering either. There is a lot of picking up of packages too. The truck gets a mess inside and small boxes become impossible to find. Good luck with your package. Hope it arrives today.

I had the very same experience with fedex. 3 times in a row.

After the 3rd time I called and raised hell with fedex customer service.

After being passed to the 3rd representative. While I was still on the phone my package magically showed up 2 hours after the driver put me down as not home.

I was home the entire day waiting so i could sign for it. A fedex truck was nowhere near my block.

The driver said "I dont know why they called me, I was gonna deliver it"(B.S.)

Apparently :

When fedex drivers dont want to deliver something they simply mark it as customer not home.

Secondly, they are also stupid that they don't realize the customer has access to the tracking information showing that they"claimed" no one was home.

Lastly, my package was fairly beat up, like it was shoved from one end of the truck and back because it was in the way of packages that actually got delivered.

"Fed Ex Drivers" are not employees, they are either an owner-operator or a driver for the truck owner.  Paid by weight, number of stops and mileage with a fuel compensation program computed off a set price.  It doesn't take much to get a CDL, but they are subject to random drug tests.  The owner of the truck wants it moving, the quality of the person behind the wheel may be very high and motivated or at the other end of the spectrum.
