Just recived my used kline santa fe berkshire today. It ran lousy at first. I discovered it had lose motor mount screws. Tighted them back and all is smooth. The cruise works nice. Have my cab2 set to r100 mode. Is this right for best kline cruise slow speed? Also did an engine tmcc reset to code 4 as all the sounds droped out. Now all sounds and cruise work fine.

There are two things that dont work though. They never did before the code reset. One is the rear electrocoupler. I get the sounds of the couper firing in railsounds, but no buzz or firing of the coupler itself. It just will not open. All wires related to the coupler are good and intact inside the tender. Taped on it and got it to manualy open. Put some graphite in it. Still wount fire with cab2.

Second the rear backup light does not light. Checked the bulb and the fillament looks ok. Bulb looks ok and wires are good.

Any sugestions as to what to check on these two issuses. Thanks guys.

No need to swap out the cruise if it's working, wait until it smokes.   As for the other issues, they do sound like the tether or other wiring as they are powered directly through the tether from the R2LC.  Of course, a quick swap of a different R2LC would be a simple check to see if it has a problem.  I recommend putting the suspect R2LC into another locomotive to test those functions in case there is a short in the wiring of the problem locomotive.

Looking at the bulb shows nothing.  To state it is good, put power to it.   Before you start reaching, did you check continuity from the coupler back to pins 7&8 on the R2LC   and the light pins 9&10. .   Confirmation of your wiring is your first step.  If you have no continuity, chase the tether.  Don't beat yourself up chasing a tether, especially if you do not need one.   Do what John states with the R2LC.  Confirming the R2LC and wiring continuity will be a huge help for you.
