Redesign of the 50-1001 DCS to include the new wireless (WI-FI) control function in a single box?

I think the Wi-Fi is an added adapter if I am not mistaken.

The way Andy Edleman described it, you hold a tablet, you must have a black box for each TIU which box he hopes can sell for less than $100, and either an in-home wi-fi or a stand alone router. 

 

Personally, if I'm running many trains, I may be holdinga remote in each hand, but it takes 2 hands to hold a tablet.  People who tried it at York say the loco response is instantaneous, without the time lag you get with a remote.

I would guess having the multithreaded capability of a tablet is a huge advantage over the remote. Especially a more responsive user interface.

For not much more than $100 you could buy the new TIU that has 2.4ghz native and skip the add-on product I would imagine.

 

A 2.4 remote might be in the future.

What happens to old remotes when 2.4 TIUs are made. Maybe include backward compatibility. Will new TIUs be much more expensive.

They will not work with the new TIUs.

Didn't Andy say something about one-way capability?

I hope they're going to do more than change the frequency to justify having to replace your TIU's and remotes!

 

I intend to wait for the availability of the new integrated 2.4 MHZ TIU unit rather than buying just the interface unit at this time.  My older 900 MHZ TIUs and controller can be used as backup devices.

Well, I sure won't be buying any additional TIU's or remotes!

 

Neither shall I.  But that's probably because I don't need any & hopefully the grandkids shan't drop any more remotes onto concrete.

Andy stated that there is not going to be a new remote, all the development and promises of next year for the new remote with bigger screen and more bells and whistles I guess just got scrapped along with whistle smoke and blow down smoke, seems they are going with their app and WiFi device. Personally while I find the smart phones and the apps really cool, my eyes and fingers do not respond to them as well as having a Legacy or DCS remote in my mitt.

I just bought a Rev L Set last month !

And now I hear they are designing all new systems with wi-fi.

So much for me getting them to add something to the currently unused AUX button on my existing systems.

I really want a small board and protocoupler (or 2) I can add to any car.

This would make working the yard or remote sidings much less tedious.

Who says WiFi is one-way?  I'd be very surprised if it is.

I think he means that wi-fi is one way to accomplish communication, not that it's one-way communication.

Could be, maybe I just misread what he meant.
