Greetings all,

I hope everyone is doing well and so far your new year is going smoothly.

Question: I bought a Lionel Amtrak HHP-8 (6-38402) at an estate sale. My layout is run by an MTH DSC TIU and DCS remote. I set the locomotive on the track and when I turned the electricity on to the TIU the locomotive took off at high speed. I never even got a chance to program it into the remote even though MTH DSC accepts TMCC controlled engines.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've seen this locomotive on Youtube and I like it. It would be a great addition to my layout.

You need a Lionel TMCC or Legacy command base with an adapter cable in order to control it with a DCS system.

Then why does my DSC remote have a menu that says add TMCC engine?

It had the ability to control Lionel engines via the DCS remote or DCS Wi-Fi app. It still needs the TMCC or Legacy base in order to read the Lionel engines because that is where the information for them is stored.

Picture buying a new piece of computer hardware and not having the drivers to use it. This is simalar but you have the software and not the hardware so to speak.
