Hi everyone,

I have a UP Veranda that has TMCC.  I never had a TMCC or CAB-1 system for my layout but just purchased Legacy last month.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to set up and program the legacy remote to control the thisTMCC and the other postwar/modern era locos.

The instruction manual is not helpful at all.

Does anyone have a step by step of how they’ve done this?

Thanks.

Engine info and select Tmcc ot the 100 thing.  Not LEG.  Same with sounds.  The smoke operation is kluge, but works.  When you set up the remote , it is a beast.

Thx!  Tried that...

engine just sits in neutral and no commands work.    I can’t figure out how to get the remote to identify the engine..

with the legacy engines, there’s the fob you plug in while in PGM mode, but I have nothing for this one and I think that’s where I’m missing something

once I unplugged the legacy controller from the power source the engine ran fine with the ZW, so there’s a link I’m not seeing somewhere

I don’t know about TMCC, but here is what I do with Legacy engines. Flip run/pgm switch to pgm on engine. Then turn on power to track. On legacy remote hit ENG and enter a number you want to assign to the engine.  Then hit SET.  Then you can move switch back to run. Then you can change to TMCC, pick sounds, etc and enter a name if you want.

Was the engine assigned to begin with.  Good catch.  Hope that applies to OP

Yes that works great on the legacy ones where you get the fob.  I can’t get the remote to assign and recognize the TMCC engine in the first place.

I don’t think a fob will take care of it.  Once you assign and recognized you can set parameters manually.  FWIW, Lionel has not included modules for a long time.  Modules only on Legacy I believe were supplied, including some recent Vision locomotives. Last I remember was Vision Niagara.  A TMCC engine would not use a module.  I might be off on somethings slightly, but it appears your engine is not  “ sending” to your legacy base.  Antenna on engine may be lose, disconnected or......

The manual for this set pre-dates Legacy, but contains the correct instructions for assigning the engine and tender a new ID.  If you check the manual it says (on p. 12) that the default setting for the IDs is 1 (engine) and 2 (tender) BUT it also says that the set comes factory-programmed as a TMCC “Train” with a default Train ID of 9. Have you tried operating it that way? If the IDs have been changed, which is possible if the set is used, they should answer TMCC commands using those IDs but to work together correctly the units have to be operated as a Train. This has a separate Info setting in the CAB2. Remember that unlike Legacy, TMCC is limited to a total of nine trains with Train IDs 1-9.

Note also that there is one other early TMCC quirk about this set: under TMCC the smoke units have to be switched off manually, otherwise they will keep running when there is power to the track - they don’t turn off when you just shut down  the sound system using the remote. This is not an issue in conventional of course because the power to the track is cycled on and off.

‘Way back when this set was issued, Lionel published a supplemental manual explaining the smoke system operation in TMCC. It, the main manual and a wiring diagram can be accessed on the Lionel product page: http://www.lionel.com/products...-turbine-73-6-18149/

The only other thing that occurs to me is that you might have set it up in the “Info” settings as a Legacy engine/Train when it is in fact TMCC and won’t answer Legacy commands. It should be set to TMCC control in both the engine IDs and the Train Info. Mine didn’t function right when I first set it up but I retraced all the steps, the Train setting took and it ran like a charm.

I tried 4.    #1 is my legacy Em-1.  #2-3 are my vision line centipedes.

1. Where are you located? Someone on the forum might be close by to give you a hand.

2. You need to know the engine number/id before you do anything else. Are you sure you have set the engine to #4 or #04? You should get a sound and light feedback that you have properly set the engine id when you have finished.

3. Yes, the Legacy remote will do everything the Cab1 did, so you really don't need that anymore unless you want it (cab1 and base) as a back-up to the Legacy.

4. Maybe post a short video of the problems if nothing above works.

Charlie

If you are having difficulty, I'd stick with using the TMCC remote and base until you get it sorted out, less complicated than doing it with the Cab-2.

Does the manual tell you how to restore these to the factory defaults? If so try that. Just curious why if you only have 4 TMCC engines you are only using single digit numbers.

With TMCC being limited to single digits for "TRains" many friends have quickly gone over that amount and cannot run the "lash-ups" as Lionel calls them at the same time.
