What is wrong with the search engine here? I type in the exact Title and it can't find it!!!

Yeah, I did that and it still couldn't find it!
Have you tried "Contains all of these words" instead of "Exact Phrase Match"?
I just got the search engine (here on the Forum) to finds this thread and I intentionally did not capitalize "Search" and added some stray spaces and got this to thread to come up. (I searched on "search engine pits")
It might help if you say what you are looking for. Maybe the thread got zapped and really doesn't exist anymore.

I totally agree. Look at a recent topic. It is simply titled "E6" Put that in the exact search. You will get a bunch of things, but not "E6". Go figure.
One benefit to this forum is the ability to fix things. Enter a phrase or wording, and it is really a crap shoot. One bright side is the information you learn as you parse through the matters that are not relevant.
How else would I find out that Gunrunner John actually landed on the moon the day before Armstrong. Without John, we would not have known the chuffs were out of sync on the Lunar Module.

That's because almost EVERY search engine requires at least THREE characters to do a valid search. Searching with only two characters would result in far too many results to be meaningful.

No it won't. The search is not case-sensitive.

"Almost" any search engine. Good to know. I don't supposed the part about 3 word minimum is in the boilerplate we were supposed to read when we registered. In any event, I now know that a 2 word search won't work. I also now know to never label a topic with just 2 words.
The search engine works just fine.
I just did a search for "e6" as such:
Advanced Search, Entered "E6" in the "Contains All These Words"
It is a recent thread being looked for, so I used the date filter and entered "AFter" "July 9, 2019"
I got a nice result showing the recent "E6" thread.

Adding the additional search parameter (After July 9, 2019) changes everything. By adding that one additional search parameter, you narrowed the search to only a few days worth of posts here, instead of several years worth. That makes a huge difference in the results returned from any search engine.

There ya go... you learned something new today!
i have tried wording things here there and everywhere and every which way but loose and can't get it to find anything.
When you put in the exact title and come up with "no results found", something is wrong!

Well, you still haven't told us what title you are searching for, so it's a a useless do loop now.
Maybe the thread is gone, or maybe there is something you are overlooking, but we will probably never know, since you want to rant about how useless it is instead of telling us so we can either agree that it doesn't work for your specific case or help figure out what setting may improve your result.
(Full disclosure, I did check the "sort by date" button at the bottom of my search I referred to before, but forgot to specify that. I do agree that without that button checked, I too sometimes don't find what I'm looking for right away.)

People are spoiled by google searches. Google records the search terms millions of people enter and what link results they click and use them in algorithms to refine the results. This helps them with synonym word matches, misspelled words, etc. Single sites do not have that luxury; they can only do word matching searches which require more effort on the users’ part to craft a a search. This thread shows up when used in the “exact phrase” search. Hint - don’t bother with the simple search.

Which is it? Bryant mentioned 3 character minimum, not 3 words.

Yes! and I didn't even have to read a POH or get a checkride Seriously, though, for me it is standard operating procedure when using any website specific search function to look at all possibilities. Just like a familiarization flight in a new plane.

Jim,
websites can be tricky with "exact match." Some will count any keystroke, including the space bar, as a character to be searched. Even better, some sites read any special characters from iOS devices as their HTML ASCii equivalent.
All in all, if you know the time frame of a topic you're looking for, use the "after" date function, as I did. and it will ease your pain
You guys were using a lot of quotation marks before so not sure if you realized that actually using them can make a difference, too. For example, trying to search for:
T rail
...by itself yields too many unrelated results.
However, if you try (with the quotation marks):
"T rail"
...you get exactly what you are looking for.

This is why I use Google to search the forum, example: type the following in Google.com, note the double quotes like Tom suggested:
"ogrforum" "e6"
or, better yet, type the following:
"ogrforum" "e6" site:ogrforum.ogaugerr.com
Ditto above...i will try the quotes though.
