HERE WE GO AGAIN!

In anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Sandy to the East Coast on Monday, we at the museum are taking advantage of the early warning. We will be closed beginning on Sunday 10/28/12 in an effort to protect our museum from possible flooding and wind damage. This preparation work will make it impossible for us to be open. We appreciate your understanding.

We look forward to the day that we can fully protect our priceless collection with the raised buildings that are in the planning stages right now. We have 75% of the funds to make this happen. YOU CAN HELP us to close this gap in a few ways. Click HERE to find out how YOU can make a difference!

I have not yet heard any reports on what Hurricane Sandy has done to the Branford Trolley Museum, but judging by the record-high storm surge (13 feet above mean high tide) at New York City, I'm afraid a great amount of surge water also entered Long Island Sound, and my educated guess is Branford (the East Haven shoreline) got at least as much storm surge as it received from the 1938 Hurricane - meaning close to record flooding. I fear that the inundation this year is likely to be far more severe and extensive than that inflicted by last year's hurricane.

Connecticut took quite a hard hit along its shoreline. I just hope the cars the crews moved to the museum's highest ground didn't get submerged.  We will have to wait until the State of Connecticut allows its coastal residents (who were commanded to evacuate all low-lying shoreline areas) to return and assess the damage before we'll learn anything definite one way or the other.

I know the Branford Trolley Museum well, and how vulnerable it is to storm surges. All any of us can do is pray they didn't suffer too extensive flooding - and offer them whatever help they need, to the best of our ability.

The Shore Line Trolley Museum (hasn't been Branford Trolley Museum for 40 years) took a bad hit again.  But hopefully, next year, after the Raising the Collection project, flood damage will be a thing of the past.

About 75% of the funds necessary have been raised.

The Shore Line Trolley Museum can use your financial assistance at this time.
