Funny thing is I started to buy that black and orange MTH/Ives engine and change it out with the shell of my original Ives engine(it doesn't run anymore). $199.00 at Side Track Hobbies at York great deal with Proto2. After looking at the black and orange locomotive I decided not to change out the shell and found myself making a road trip to Side Track Hobbies to buy the orange passenger cars to match the engine.

Isn't that an American Flyer #1218-looks great. I had one of those years ago in yellow. It looks better in the black color you have. Any chance you have a picture with the cars I see behind it?

that appears to be 5 rail track ???

Yes it is 5-Rail track. I combined Lionel O-72 and MTH Wide radius standard gauge track so I could run standard and O on the same track.

Unfortunately I bought a Chromebook that is not compatible with my camera. I wish I could since you asked. The cars you see in the background are an observation, baggage, and a couple of passenger cars.
I was fortunate enough to find some with interior illumination (3) ....I will post a video of the other examples from the early days of my layout to show what these cars typically look like.

The 1218 was cataloged from 1920 - 1925.
Here are two from 1929 - 1930. They are the uncataloged by Flyer engines sold through Montgomery Ward.
The 7010
And the 7011

I picked up 5 of these AF Steeple car motors awhile back. I haven't had much time to work with them, but I did get this one up and running with the help of a Marx motor! The AF motor was junk - nothing but a shell and a handful of broken zinc pested wheels! Too long a road, so....
In any case, this one is an IVES 3590. Still lots of work to be done, but it's a start!
BTW, I did not have to do ANY modifications to the frame or shell, so if I ever find a good IVES motor, it can go back to original.
Well, this is my contribution. Sorry, not on track just now. Awaiting some parts for passenger cars.
