I've mounted a couple of MTH smoke units in different ways for different reasons. One was in a G scale MP15AC scratch built switcher. I used plastic pipe and cut and glued together angled pieces to run from the dual stacks down to the single funnel to the smoke unit. I should have used 2 units but I didn't.

I'm working on an O scale challenger that the smoke stacks are spread pretty far apart. To make matters worse, they protrude into the boiler a bit and the bottom of the boiler protrudes upwards right there. So at first thought, I was going to skip the smoke. I know our grandson would be disappointed if she doesn't smoke. So I'm mad at myself for getting lazy here.

So it appears that I may have to make some type of custom smoke chamber again to feed the dual stacks and yet allow oil to be added. Because of the tight fit and heat generated I'm considering soldering copper tubes together to handle the heat and make up a short custom funnel. It's so tight that I'm frustrated. 2 units would be a challenge to cram into that tight space. A stock funnel doesn't come near covering the stack's holes. Maybe a crushed copper pipe with drilled openings? I have like a half an inch to work with-in.

 Anybody have to do this?

Looks like Lionel has something:

Instead of stiff copper have you looked at silicone tubing? I use silicone tubing on the ends of my giant scale RC planes which have gas engines ranging from 35cc to 60cc. Silicone tubing comes in many diameters. I also use smaller silicone tubing as a filler tube going into my planes smoke pump. The filler tubes come with a small machined plug to cap the end of the line so you could route the filler tube through the cab and it would be hidden.

Hmmm, something with my pic above covers up the post below for me to read?

I ended up after much thought, grinding stuff down flat and cramming it in there! I made a shim or gasket out of thick plastic to surround the boilers smoke outputs and guide the smoke. I grinded an area out so that a MTH smoke unit could slide in there. I will seal it up later. After much work, it's about done!

I had to fire it up to check my wiring and sound so far. I don't have the tether and receptacle yet. I forgot that the board is from an upgrade kit and did not have any sounds loaded. Then I remembered something else. I have a G scale boiler from a Challenger that is unpainted but factory complete. I decided to give it a shot. I installed that board set into this Challenger and the battery. It fired right up! That's a pleasant surprise for me!
