I took advantage of WBB blowout sales from justrains and trainworld. I bought the 6 car 72' streamliner set from justrains for $220  and the E7 AA set from trainworld for $149.

What were the name of the train or trains that the E7 Diesels pulled, as I know nothing about the southern railroad.

Just a few"name trains" that toddled to NYC and return:The Southerner, The Royal Palm, The Peach Queen, The Piedmont Limited and many others.

The "Tennessean"[May 1941] was Washington to Memphis and return with connections to NYC.[In 1941 the "Tennessean" 4-6-2 D.C. to Lynchburg, N&W  "J" over the mountains to Bristol and initially E6s the rest of the run to Memphis. Eventually became all Southern diesel, the E7s would work well there for postwar years.

The E7s began to arrive on the Southern in 1947 as postwar production cranked back up.

Dave, Dewey, & Sean,

Thanks for all the info, just opened up the passenger cars today. the WBB 6 car set came with 1 baggage, 5 coach, and 1 observation. would of been nice to have a diner car, but I knew these were not prototype. they do have the name The Tennessean under the windows. the E7 AA set is coming today, although not correct to southern standards by the info sean gave it will still look nice.

On the Southern Ry it is prototypical to run Heavyweights as headend cars in the came consist along with the silver lightweight cars. We never saw this in advertisements or promotional photos but often 2-4 REA or RPO Heavyweight cars were upfront including on the name trains. Simple reason, the headend cars were good revenue producers whereas the passenger cars were losers.

When Brosnan was President of Southern he even made management couple container cars on the rear of Eastern Lines passenger trains.
