Have any of you replaced the sound set on the early PS2 PRR Atlantic? If so, what file? Based on recordings I have heard, and giving the benefit of the doubt, I guess the whistle is passable as a prr passenger whistle heard from a distance, but subjectively speaking, this is the only locomotive I own that I don't like the sounds of, including the chuff.

Now arriving on Track 2 the Pennsylvania Limited.

Hmm, maybe a different approach. Are there any particularly good old ps2 sound files that are fan favorites here? If the locomotive is an old 5v ps2, can you only replace with 5v-board ps2 files?
Pennsy484, I have that 5 volt Atlantic and love the file. I keep it as is and just replaced the speaker. I am surprised to read your post and sorry to hear you are unhappy with the sound. Is your file nasty sounding that a speaker can cause? I have a few Pennsylvania trains and that engine gets the assignment often as I love the chuff. I network with some Pennsy guys and have never heard your complaint before. If you do not care about the passenger sounds, you could try a few others that are available. Last year, my good friend Locolawyer had his PS3 Atlantic at my house and when we compared sounds, the older 5 volt engine was much better than the PS3. We ended putting another file in his PS3 locomotive.
I have a 2 rail MTH version. I would guess it's a PS2 3 volt board and probably the newer 2 meg board?
Here's what mine sounds like:

Hi Marty, thanks for the reply. The speaker is fine. I guess really what I don't care for is the whistle. I see what they were going for as it does sound like a prr whistle as heard from a distance, but it's kinda dull sounding and you can really hear the seam in the repeating segments. I wouldn't mind experimenting with it since I haven't ever replaced a sound file, but I just don't want to install the wrong type of file.

That sounds great! Thanks
That does sound good although it is not an Atlantic. You can only load a 5 volt file into your engine.

Ooops! Why was I thinking Pacific? My Atlantic is still sitting with a blown 5v board. My brain is...... out to lunch.
PENNSY484, What is the MTH number for that engine? I would like to hear it on their website if it is playable.

Hello Dave. The item number is 20-3038-1. Where do I find playable sound sets on the mth website? Thanks!
Some have the ability to play when there's a darkened in or colored icon under the support tab. Yours doesn't have it.
Being an old 5 volt, I would bet there aren't many correct choices? There were some very good ones for some engines.
If you are really unhappy with the sounds, it maybe time to upgrade!
