I have been working on my layout, experimenting with different ideas.  Mostly trial and error on the layout itself.  Last night I tried Scarm.  I came up with two designs, neither of which I am totally sold on.

The layout is to be built with operating accessories in mind.  Coal loaders, milk car, cattle car, 97 coal elevator, 456 coal ramp with 397 coal loader, barrel ramp, log ramp, etc.

I want to have only one siding which will accommodate the 456 coal ramp.  Otherwise, a train must be able to circumnavigate the layout without having to do any switching.

Here are two ideas I came up with.  The first layout uses all O31 curves, the second has O42 curves at each end only with one O42 switch track at the lower right to allow access to the coal ramp siding.  The available area, not including the coal ramp siding is 4'-0" x 12'-0".

Sorry for the small image size, I just couldn't get it any larger.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I am using Lionel "O" gauge tubular track.

Dave, by the way, how did you get the blue outline on the program.  I should mention that I am using the free version.

Ok, try these new files then.

The blue outline is the "baseboard", the green when viewed in 3D. I posted some instructions for how to add one in your other thread about using SCARM. Let me know if they helped.

I thought the layout could be spiffed up with another mainline oval and O72 crossovers. The mainline ovals have O54 easements on the end curves for a smoother flow. The 3010/3011 switches have about the same footprint as cut-down O22 switches that I like to use myself, but regular O22 switches could be substituted. I'm not familiar with the space and locating requirements for the accessories, so maybe someone else can contribute more information on that.

Dan, will your table have access on both sides? A long spur on the back side would be a good place for your additional accessories.
