What a way start things off! Great pics Alan. This past week I was able to find some time to weather up my JLC Allegheny, CSX SD70, and attempt the water project that I posted last Sunday. The water project has been difficult. The first pour of the envirotex seeped through the floral foam which I used for the mountains. To remedy that situation I bought some Flex Seal and applied it to the base and underside of the benchwork. This morning I am on second attempt at the envirotex.

Nice ride, Alan. Is that taken on your layout? I'm used to seeing the ultra urban stuff. I like it.

Nice weathering, GEF. You'll get the water thing worked out, it's gonna look great.

Looks like you know how to use that lens to me, Mike.

I made a little progress on the basements.

Thanks guys...

Fred...yep, believe it or not, that is on my layout.  I have quite a few of these vignettes I am now working on.  Slowly but surely if the Good Lord gives me enough time I will get more of them done!  I am working on a few factory scenes right now and will post them over the next few weeks....

The basements are just unbelievable.....WOW!!

GEF....your weathering is very nice...not over done, I like it...

Mike, looks like you are doing just fine with your new lens, I could take some pointers from you and Eliot...

Eliot...beautiful shots indeed!

No manual focus, you should back in and out slowly.

Eliot:

Thanks for the camera 101.  I find this stuff fascinating. I'm always looking for small detail pictures, so important to this section of the forum.  Hopefully I can gain a bit with this addition, it seemed frustrating on occassion, this helps.

Another great Sunday.  Thanks to all who participated.

Alan:  Always one of my favorite cars

GEF:  Great scenery work.

Eliot:  Great pictures and Thank you for the camera advice.

Fred:  Fascinating. I often wonder if there is a ship in a bottle on your desk. Amazing patients.

Keep cool this week, the heat can be very dangerous.

Mike

I'm envious of all you guys with your talk of aperture and ISO's and so forth!!  All I have at my disposal right now is my crappy first-generation iPhone (well, the phone's not crappy, the camera is!!)  I'd like to think my scenes would look better with a real camera, but then again, maybe I'm kidding myself!

Heat, what heat? We just barely made it over 106 the last couple of days.

Looking forward to the cool down this week. Low 80's.

The trip back from Philly yesterday saw a couple of 100+ as we rolled on the Turnpike. Cool off today with tomorrow morning seeing a 59 degrees. That is long sleeve shirt on the bike, tomorrow morning at least.

I found a piece of information on the NPS (National Park Service) Grand Canyon website that talked about dehydration at a rate of 1 liter per hr.

love your new wheels, Alan (and the mini scene)

GEF, that scene is coming along very nicely and sounds like you've found a solution for the water pour.

vulcan, please tell me you didn't make that barbershop chair from scratch! if u did, please tell me how, before I kill myself

mike, sweet scene. If the early iPhone really isn't helping the look I can only imagine how good it would look otherwise.

Vulcan,  Outstanding work on the basement! The attention to the detail is amazing. The drain in floor and the barber chair  WOW. Any plans for adding a coal furnace?? That would make it like just like the home I grew up in.

Mike,  Excellent little scene. Hopefully that ice cream guy drives thru the neighborhood tonight.

Ok, I won't tell you that I made it from scratch. It's made from styrene and wire and covered with gin-u-wine naugahyde.

It's actually the third barber chair I've made. The two good ones are upstairs in the shop.

GEF, there's a coal fired steam furnace in the basement of the apartments. I don't know about adding one to the barber shop.

Needed a short bridge for a narrow rural road on our hobby shop layout restoration project. Just happened to have a G scale tunnel portal from the old layout, a few scraps of pink foam, and a hacksaw blade handy --- result: a quick and easy bridge:

Luckily only one side would be visible. Otherwise, I would have needed two portals. I just added a row of marble tile trim pieces along the rear side.

(Getting lazy in my old age - photo taken with my iPhone instead of dragging out the usual camera!)

Thanks.  The iPhone (at least the first generation one like mine) is okay for photos.  It does do a nice job in natural light.  Problem is it doesn't do well under artificial light, IMO, especially the flourescent kind tht my layout sits under out in the garage.  Fortunately I'm able to bump up the quality a bit with the editing tools in iPhoto  Just about every photo I post here on the Forum has had adjustments to exposure, contrast, highlights, definition, shadows, etc.

Jim P., your picture is nice and clear.  What version/generation iPhone do you have, if you don't mind my asking??

now, THAT is funny. whew, good thing the supply of scratch is so low these days and you had to use those other materials. besides, if I had to kill myself I might miss out on seeing the completion of the basement. just beautiful modeling.
