 It's #SwitcherSaturday time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT you should really go take a look, it was a ton of fun!

This week at the Murnane house...
My NYC #9990 Dockside Switcher (MTH 30-1243-0, more pics here) is taking the initial Virginia run on my small tabletop layout.
The layout has seen better days and is pretty much stripped down to bare-bones, but it's a start!

I hope everyone has a nice weekend and if you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

All the best...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

Good morning fellow SWSAT fans!!!  Wonderful material guys!!

Rich - it might be small, however, within every acorn is an oak tree.  You are off to a great start of a new layout!!! Bravo!!!

The train muse came upon me at 1a.m. this morning when I began photographing and running trains until 2:35 a.m. which is the time the sand man arrived on the scene, although the muse was still very prominent.

Today we have the C-16 working a MOW extra on the Mountain Division.  We also have a consist of a B&O GP9 and B&O SW9 pulling a local freight through town.  This freight will spot a loaded car on the team track to be unloaded this Tuesday, as the railroad will operate a sparse schedule ( scheduled passenger trains and manifest freights only ... no local freights or extras )  this Monday in honor of Labor Day.

Here are some photos of switchers working early this morning on the Free State Junction Railway.  I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend and a most creative week!!!  IMG_3333IMG_3319IMG_3338IMG_3340IMG_3312IMG_3317IMG_3322IMG_3329IMG_3344IMG_3327IMG_3348IMG_3347IMG_3352IMG_3354IMG_3355IMG_3342

IMG_1658Yay! SWSat is on!

Im late to the party.  I'm up in the Adirondacks and decided to post some Grasse River Railroad/Emporium pics. First up is my replica Caboose.

Then a shot of the home brew vehicle that Beebe and Clegg called the "cyrosis flyer" in thier "Mixed Train Daily" book powered by the engine of a 1909 Thomas Flyer. Here it is at the loading dock of the Cranberry Lake mill office. My caboose is located about 20 yards straight back from it in this shot.

These are of the 0-6-2T that was the main  Cranberry Lake Yard engine that made occasional runs to Conifer.

IMG_1638IMG_1608This train is switching the Cranberry Lake  yard. The houses in the background on Mill St are still extant.IMG_1619This is the "jumping Goose" a 1923 White bus first getting switched at the wye on Silver Lake  by someone's girlfriend and then getting refueled at the company dock on Cranberry Lake at Route 3.IMG_1612IMG_1616

#43 and #42 were identical Dickerson built 0-6-0s here for some special occasion it is pulling the lines one  non self powered passenger car, a combine.IMG_1600IMG_1611

have a great weekend everyone.

As always, terrific photos on this thread.  This is the first week that I've run my new 0-6-0.  It's all that I hoped that it would be.  Owner's manual stated don't use MTH Z1000, which powers my railroad.  So, went to a manufacturer of electronics used by 3rd Rail and was told it would be OK.  So far so good.

have a great weekend everyone.

Wow love the old photos

Happy Switcher Saturday everyone. I'm another one late to the show.

Rich/MURNANE, glad you are digging out...when you have time you can help me dig out from when I moved 6 years ago!

Andy/SILVER LAKE, I love that caboose you built. Hope you can post more pics in the future. Nice vintage photos.

Dave/Steamer, Nice looking switchers.

Today, my contribution is my trusty prewar Pennsy #228.

Here's a little something different today.  7E55AC36-46A2-43B0-91EA-431B9C6E51DF-8420-000010FD05AA8BD2

This is engine 20 from the Reading Society of Model Engineers, just north of Reading PA.  (Photo from rsme.org) Not quite a switcher engine, but certainly small.  This is a Crown Model Products loco that recently turned 50 years young. The track gauge is 15", and yes it runs on coal.  The RSME is a multi faceted club that I recommend you go check out if you find yourself nearby.  Looks like they have a run day for the big trains tomorrow.  Sounds like a good family outing.
