Lionel re-released the JLC Challenger in the Vision Line product line with an array of special effects. The soon to be re-released JLC Big-Boy will offer a bevy of special effects. Now, the  2015 scheduled re-release of the  Y6b will have the whistle steam effect. I suspect, and hope, another  release of the Allegheny might offer some extra effects as well.

I wonder why Lionel did not offer any steam effects with the recently re-released  JLC based H7?

I just think the H7 models were some of the last that were part of Lionel's ill-fated decision to remove whistle-steam after it was so popular with enthusiasts.  Same can be said for the J (although not a JLC product formerly).  That would have been a killer locomotive with whistle-steam.  And now look... by the time Lionel delivers the Pocahontas set, we'll have a ho-hum J without whistle-steam being released amidst many, many steam locomotives where whistle-steam has become a defacto standard feature.

Can anyone spell blowouts-ville for those J's and the Pocahontas passenger set???    And with the market so flooded with product, it's quite possible Lionel and dealers won't be able to give those J's away.

The original theory was that they would make each Vision Line release a must have collector's item by including one special feature that would never be repeated again.   That always seems good to todays marketing department,  not so much for future marketing if they can't keep coming up with ever more outrageous features.

I think an animatronic O scale crew that could climb into the cab and operate autonomously would become a must have classic.  Of course, they would need a fireman and engineer with recognizable voices to make it sound authentic.   Maybe they could start by auditioning from the forum members/managers.  The question would be whether they would have to inhale helium to simulate O scale vocal chords.

?

Folks will just have to each decide if it's worth more than twice as much to buy a new Y6 rather than buy a JLC one.

They'll be able to give one to me. I'll even pay some for it.
