I'm re-building my fairly basic layout, mainly for loop-running and operating accessories without much, if any scenery.

I would like to add roadbed this time to my tubular track in lieu of the carpeting I used previously.

Does anyone have a recommendations pro or con on Woodland Scenics foam roadbed? Looks perspective? Sound-deadening perspective?

Thanks!

I love it. I tested the sound deadening qualities of it, cork roadbed, and several other foam materials and liked it the best. I did however use sill gasket from Home Depot under my tracks that are hidden as it is much cheaper and does the same job but doesn't have the ballast profile or appearance.

I have it ballasted on my modules, and as-is under Gargraves sectional track on a Christmas layout. I see no reason to use anything else.

Sound deading-wise, I have the track glued on my modules, and held by plastic tie-downs on my Christmas layout. Screws will transfer sound from track to wood no matter what roadbed the track is sitting on.

It works great. I found that with scaletrax plastic ties, you need to pre-drill the holes for your nails or brads. Otherwise the ties will crack on the soft faom roadbed when nailing into them.
The sound deadening is excellent.
Here is a video of my latest work from last week. Still a looooong way to go. But that is scaletrax with foam rdbed.
