TIU BACK from Warranty Repair!!!

did your engines stay silent with the tiu powered up , in dcs mode

i had some issues when i first got mine but found out i was operation it incorrectly once that was figured out it worked perfectly. Did you try a TIU reset and a Remote reset before you sent it off for repair?

Yes, they did not make any sound.  Just what sounded like a relay picking up when power was applied.  I reset the remote and the TIU.  When I had MTH tech support on the line, he had me do that too.

 

Yes it had me going for a long time, because it would work fine, then I would change locomotives the next time, and it wouldn't work.  Then I couldn't find any DCS engines.  Finally It quit working all together.  So they said they would repair it under warranty.

Thank you for asking!  I sent it in on March 17th, so that's just 3 weeks ago.  As I recall, I checked tracking and they received it that Friday.  I haven't heard from them yet.  Looks like we will have to wait a while longer to see what comes of it.

just to let you know i had sent them a new one i had bought that failed, got it back and works perfectly. don't worry they do a great job and you'll be happy with the results. then you can enjoy your trains and all features of DCS again!

That sounds like a good track record for them.  I never really got the hang of it before it started acting up intermittently, so I will be glad to try it out in its correct condition.  :-)

Thanks for asking.  No I have not.  He said 5 or 6 weeks, and I think this will be 6 weeks. I may give then a call to see if I can learn the status.  I won't be surprised if it takes longer Until they get to it.

I mistakenly posted this topic in the DCC Forum instead of the DCS Forum.  I had wondered why no one else bit Repair Technician' had commented.  I did not notice my error until 2 days ago.  Maybe no one else found it, since it was in the wrong forum.  I asked Rich if he could move the topic, and he obliged.  Thanks Rich!M

 

Now the latest.  It has been 6 weeks since MTH received the TIU, and I haven't heard back.  I am not alarmed, since I know estimates can we well intentioned, but circumstances make them inaccurate.  I do plan to give them A call sometime too see if I can get a status report.  In the meantime, I purchased a wonderful PS2 Premier Atlantic from a forum member at a great price.  I am itching to try it out on the DCS, as it doesn't run right on my Z750 or my CW80.

Are you tracking the repair from MTH website. It is pretty accurate on what is going on. They are not going to contact you if under warranty.

I looked at their web site today to get their phone number, and saw the place to sign in to follow online.  However, I had the case number written down at home.  I hadn't noticed you could do that until today.  This is the first time I sent something in for repair.  I will dig out the case number tomorrow and report back in.  Thanks 

well i can tell you when i sent my in for repair they MTh said it would probably take a month as they were very backed up with repairs . I actually got it back in a couple of weeks but i had bought mine from my train hobby mth dealer so i had a little extra help getting it done sooner.

I would have fixed it myself but since it was under warranty i had it mailed in wh a RMA number threw my train dealer, helped make a difference getting it back quicker!

P.S. hope you get it back soon i would call them with your RMA number and ask how much longer it will be!good luck Mark

I am happy to report that I found my RMA number, looked it up.  The Status is Finish, and the Comments are Your item has been shipped.

 

I guess I can look forward to receiving it by sometime next week if not tomorrow.

Should come FedEx. Sent out my engine for repair and they received it 3/30. Shipped it back to me on 4/27 and was at my door 4/29.

Hopefully you will get it today and you will be able to run you new engine.  The few things I have had repaired at MTH were all sent back working, looking like new.

Well the FedEx man teased me today.  I was working out back, and walked around the house to see the FedEx truck parked in front of the house almost directly across the road.  So he made a delivery to them but not to me.  Oh well, what's a few more days?

I feel you will get your TIU this week sometime, good luck and enjoy your trains when it comes back!

Possibly shipped on Friday. Mine only took 2 days to Illinois. You are a lot closer to MTH than me. Also check in the box for the paper that shows what was repaired or replaced.

 

So I recieved the TIU and remote back from warranty repair today.  The documentation said they replaced a defective IC chip.  It found my locomotive immediately.  The only settings I changed were to lower all the sound way down.  I tried to link my first YouTube video which shows the TIU controlling my new to me Premier B&O Atlantic.  I didn't get it linked.  Maybe it is because I am using the iPad.  I will try again tomorrow once I can use the PC.  Thanks to all who gave me advice and encouragement.

I'm still trying to figure this YouTube out.  lol, I wasn't able to see it either.  So I realized I had set it to private and was logged into Google as my wife.  She would be the only one to see it.  It is public now, so try again!  New fangled technology stuff.  

Thanks, Kenny!  When it works, it is great.  The gist of the topic was that mine was working intermittently, but I thought it was me being a newbie.  Finally it failed for good and I got a warranty repair ticket with MTH 3 weeks before the 1 year warranty expired.  That was close.

BTW, sounds like a side rod needs some oil.

Well at least the sound is good on the video.  Thank you very much for mentioning it. Yes, I noticed that while filming.  I stopped it right after I shut off the camera, and it is sitting there waiting for a lube job.

Here is the video embedded. I had some warranty repair work done recently and it took about 8 weeks. Looks like that is still the average. I'm glad you got it back and it's working.

It's pretty easy. Once you hit Post Reply, click on the film icon next to the smiley face. Copy and paste the full url from youtube into the file/url line. The "type" should be "Flash". Then hit insert. The video will not come up in preview (just a yellow box), but will when you submit the reply.
