I have 4 loops and numerous sidings. I use two transformers to supply the layout with each supplying power to 2 loops and some sidings. The transformers are a ZW postwar and a MTH 4000. Today when I was trying to run the layout all of a sudden on all 4 loops the engines at the far ends I got out of range on the remote. I decided to test the TIU on my setup track. On the fixed output I got a signal strength of 10. The variable outputs gave a signal sterngth of 8. Is this normal for a TIU.  The transformer used was the Z-4000 at the same voltage settings.  Also, is there a signal booster for the TIU ?

The RF Out Of Range is likely the remote to TIU communication, not the track signal.

No signal booster for the TIU.  We've discussed it, but it's a very complicated concept given the characteristics of the DCS signal.

There is a TIU channel tester that was created to check the health of the TIU signals, it's especially important for the Rev. L models, they seem to have the most issues with the driver chips.

Design of a $10-20 DCS-TIU Port Tester Tool?

If you check in that thread, Tom (rtr12) is selling kits for the little board so you can test the signal strength of your TIU channels.
