So in preparation for a video I'm putting together on my TMCC to LionChief Bridge device I thought it a good idea to just quickly go over the functions available through the TMCC system.  Everything here should be old hat to most folks around here so there isn't really anything more than pressing all the buttons to see what they do.

I'd like to make sure I didn't make any errors with the information, so maybe some of the long time TMCC operators could take a look and see if I made any mistakes?

I'd also welcome comments on the video over all.  I know my cameras are garbage for video, but there is not much I can do about that just yet.  I'm also aware my speaking voice is garbage, but I can't do anything about that either

I agree with Marty, I'd suggest you slow the whole thing down quite a bit.

One mistaken comment, you mention that AUX2 doesn't have a function, actually it does.  AUX2 toggles the headlight.

Also, you mention "raise and lower" the smoke volume.  For TMCC, you just turn it on and off with the AUX1-8 and AUX1-9.  If you have an engine with the smoke regulator, there is a much more involved rain-dance to actually access the raising and lowering of the smoke volume, see below.

AUX1, AUX2, 9 (x), then AUX2 again to save the setting.  The (x) is the L,M,H, momentum buttons under the cover.  They are also used to set the smoke volume in locomotives using the smoke voltage regulator.

Truthfully, I'd probably omit that as well and just say that AUX1-8 and AUX1-9 turn the smoke on and off.

Finally, I would omit the part about lashups entirely.  If this is a basic intro, that is just confusing to a new person to TMCC command control, and they're unlikely to be doing that up front.

Marty and John, Thank you.

I'm sitting in a hotel room 200 miles from home right now, so I don't have an opertunity to actually re-record the video right now.  The speed is the big issue I was concerent with myself... I thought I left enough time, but it turns out I can't talk fast enough on the narration.  I'll try to do better in the future, or simply pause the video to give time for the narration to catch up.  Guess I can take away that when I think I moved slow enough, I need to move half as fast.

GRJ, On the smoke volume, on most engines is it simply 8=off, 9=on?  I seem to recall that holding 9 down also boosts the smoke output.

Also, thanks on the headlight.  Learn something new every day.

I'm not super concerned with functions that can not be duplicated with a LionChief Plus engine, but think it best not to be wrong.

Congratulations

Hello John - Welcome to You Tube. I just watched your first video. Like how you did the split screen, with the Cab #1 controller and the locomotive. I am your first YT Subscriber.

I purchased my Lionel Cab #1 TMCC from Bert, at Wild Bill's Trains many years ago. At that time it was new technology. Lionel had a package deal, locomotive with TMCC all in one box. The locomotive was a Chicago and North Western EMD GP-7. Still have this loco. This loco had no Lionel Legacy Control System.. That came about two years later, on a NYC RS-11.

can't you record the video and later record the sound track, then put the two together?

Yes, which is what I did.  I just misjudged how long it was going to take to say what I wanted/rushed through it when whispering the dialog to myself.  As I said above, I don't have access to the trains right now, only the video I already have recorded.  I can redo the narration, which I will do, but can't do anything about the video at this time.

Thank you for the input.

Gary,

Thank you.  Don't know how much I'll be putting up after I finish this project, but I've always enjoyed tinkering with video editing and such, going back to the days of dubbing on VHS with the case open so I could advance the tape by hand.  Things are much easier on the computer.

Working on the companion video "LC+ quick overview" right now, then once we have a baseline of what each does by it's self, we can put them together.  Wonder if I'll get in copyright trouble if I throw the old Reese's cup commercial in the mix... "Hey your TMCC got in my LionChief..."

John,  This seems like a basic video, but you need to be sure of your facts.  Is this just practice or, will you use this?

To enter a single # ID you do not have to enter 0.  Holding 9 down is a boost if R2lC set up for smoke.  Yes standard whether diesel or steam.  IF R2LC code is different it can turn on or off a mars light or cab light. So model specific.  TMCC only has 5 outputs on R2LC.  2 coupler triacs, 2 light outputs (normally directional) and Smoke/MARs triac.   You can set momentum, and if the engine is newer and has ACREG to control smoke, the momentum buttons control smoke output too.  L, M, H.  No ACREG you only have on and off and boost (which is meant for short duration or you risk burning up smoke unit).  G

While holding 9 down is a boost for the smoke, it's only a temporary boost as long as you hold it.  Basic operation is AUX1-8 turns it off, and AUX1-9 turns it on.  Holding the 9 after the AUX1-9 will temporarily boost the smoke.  The smoke volume "raindance" I posted earlier is for locomotives with the AC regulator as both George and I have mentioned.
