The new Cab 1L is a few months away.  I recently bought a NIB Lionmaster Challenger from 2005.  This was my first venture to the dark side of command control.  I did it cuz it's just a matter of time til the grandkids want to run their Lionels this way.  If I continue to purchase pre Legacy locos they should run OK with the new cab 1L, right?

Correct.  The new Cab 1L is what I like to think of as a watered down Cab2 Legacy controller, that does pre-Legacy (TMCC) just fine.  In addition, if you choose conventional...that will run as well.

I have one of the Beta "Lite" sets and I'm able to control both my WBB E7 with ERR Cruise Commander and 3rd Rail E7 with TMCC and Railsounds 4.  I also have a Legacy GP9 which runs fine too.

I can't tell you what I CAN'T do, but all 3 engines run fine using the Lite set (CAB and Base).

With only the Base, a PowerHouse 180, and the CAB handheld there's 18 volts going to the track, so controlling a conventional engine with that setup is not possible.  A Legacy PowerMaster would be required I believe, to run conventional engines.

CharlesRO has the Lite set listed as coming in August.

I was not talking about TMCC stuff, I'm talking conventional, as in no command capability.

I know John, I don't question you.

I was just making a general statement for others to read.
