Train Express is going out of business. They want to have everything sold by the end of August. Check their website for some good deals.
WOW, they were the first mailorder company I started using about 25 years ago. Sorry to see them closing up shop.
Side Bar Story
Back in the day, they were a K-Line Super Store. I used to drive down there to get my Shadow Rail Track with pins. When K-Line went under, I went back down & stocked up with Shadow Rail.
I have been watching their web page for several weeks, but have not made any purchases. I have a RR friend that lives in Indianapolis, he said he is going to take a drive over to their store. If he get back to me, I will give you an update.

I have purchased all of my track and two Lionel sets from them. Their prices and service has always been wonderful.
'Sorry to see them close up shop.
I hate to say it, but this kind of ruined my day. Didn't expect to read this when I opened the thread.
I've bought trains there since '84! A lot of great stuff/memories of that store.
Larry is a great guy to joke around with and I'll miss seeing him.
Always felt fortunate to have a wonderful Lionel dealer in the Indy area.
For those who never made it to the store, it was one of the better stocked Lionel dealers. They also had some great used stuff.
I'm going to take the day off and go look for deals there Wed. Maybe the last time I see those guys.
Yes, I used to buy from them years ago (pre-internet), too, both by mail-order and at York. They were my first choice for MTH.
I take it they didn’t announce this until after the LCCA Convention in Indy two weeks ago? They would have been overrun with bargain hunters from the Convention.
Was there any reason given for the closing?

Sorry they're closing - I thought it was a good dealer. I don't see any great buys at this point. And most of the stuff they had I wanted is gone, or they no longer had it listed because they didn't have it when they checked their inventory (happened quite a few times in the past).

You read my mind-it would have been an awesome time to sell that large inventory of trains! This summer has been hard on LHS here in Indy, this is the second closing within a month!

Larry did say something about retiring someday, but I took it as a 'later down the road' type passing comment when I heard it about 2 months ago. When I'm there Wednesday I'll ask.

I used to visit this store fairly often when it was north of the bypass, and I thought they owned their own building.....then my trips became much less frequent, and when next there, they had moved, I remember the building as empty, and I never made it to the new location. What other Indy shop closed?
Purchased my MTH barn at their old store. Always tried to stop when I went to the race.

Big Four Hobbies, Plainfield-Indy West side. They didn't carry a lot of O scale stuff but had lots of model supplies. It was a good LHS. Unfortunately for me, I found them during the big closing sale...
I just put in a 2,000 order from Lionel recent catalog. Blt to order items as well.
I guess this means that I won't be getting my order.

When Jimmy retired and closed Jims Train shop he transfered all of my preorders to the new Jason's Train Shop. I received every item from Jason that I had preorderd from Jimmy.

Ed,
I'll ask about it for you when I'm there. I imagine they have a plan in place for all the customers.

I asked Larry about this when I talked to him a few weeks ago. He has transferred the Pre-orders to another store, so you guys will be taken care of. For the exact details I would suggest you give him a call.
Thanks guys. I'll give them a call.
I found out that all the pre orders are being turned over to Charles Ro.
Sad news. Larry was always a pleasure to talk to on my business trips to Indy. They had a huge store with excellent inventory.
I hope he enjoys his well earned retirement!!

All,
I talked with Larry today while at the store.
Each customer who has pre-ordered an item should contact them personally.
BTO items are going to be handled by Charles Ro. Although I will not provide any more specific information, to keep rumors/confusion to a minimum (benefits everyone), the staff assured me that customers will be taken care of on items they have ordered.
Took advantage of some close out deals. They still have a LOT of inventory!
Blt to order items are being turned over to Charles Ro. Other pre order items you'll need to pick a new dealer. I took care of things today and Happy with Charles Ro. Train express was very helpful as well and I wish them the best. This is not a rumor it's my experience. Thanks to all.
Conincidentally, I just got bombarded by emails from Indy TCA, and MTH, about Mr. McMuffin's custom run of an MTH Monon F-3 passenger train.
I am in Seymour and ordered several items from them years ago. I happened to be in Indy a few years ago and bought a Lionel streamlined Hudson when they were on 96th street. I hate to hear they are going out of business.
