So...yesterday was my wedding anniversary. We made dinner reservations in San Francisco to celebrate it. My wife also works in The City. We live in the little town of Brisbane, outside San Francisco. I am retired now...but The Boss still works. We didn't want to take two cars into The City so I took the train in to meet her. That's how we get this story. I took CalTrain from the station in the town of South San Francisco. It's about 5 minutes from our house and my son dropped me off. The CalTrain station is located right in the middle of a small working Union Pacific rail yard. I brought my trusty Nikon. I shot some photos at the yard and during my 20-minute train ride. I got a couple of pics of some of the engines that work out of the yard and one long freight. On the ride I got some pics of some MOW cars that included ballast hoppers and flatcars loaded with rails. I also got a pic of the over-grown and abandoned SP Bayshore Yard and the old, graffitti'ed roundhouse. I took a pic of a nice old brick building that has been there since the 1800's. The ride stopped at CalTrain's end of the line. The line ends at 4th and Townsend Streets in San Francisco. This is in the Mission Bay district of San Francisco. I walked to my wife's office at the San Francisco Fire Department Headquarters building and met her. We drove to the financial district and had a wonderful dinner at an old restaurant called the Wayside Tavern. It was good food, good ambiance... and I was with the love of my life. Matt
