Hi Everybody--  Hope everybody had a great time at York !  I have a question for you before diving into my living-room layout project :

Ken's Track Laying

I am finally getting ready to lay a lot of tubular track on my super strong tables with 1/2" plywood tops.

Will be using standard tubular tinplate track in 031, 042, 054 and 072 radii. It will be supported on Midwest cork roadbed. Between the bottom of the rails and the top of the cork surface, I would like to install Kappler scale wood ties. The size of the ties are:

.146" X .188" X 2.125" (prototype 8' 6") ... Will the ties fit in this space ?

Do I need to anchor the cork roadbed to the plywood ? What size screws should I use to anchor the track to the cork roadbed ?

Would this size brass screw work out OK ?  I can always paint the heads black !!

I thank you in advance for your answers to these questions !

The cork roadbed should be glued to the plywood.  You will need to use pins or weights to hold the cork in place while the glue dries.  There are videos on Youtube that demonstrate how to install cork roadbed.  I would use flat head screws and would not pay extra for brass.  If you are going to ballast, the screws can be removed because the glued ballast holds the track in place.
