Do you have an obstacle, difficulty or challenge that's keeping you from achieving  your goals in your model railroad hobby?

I did.

Keep in mind that you just might turn that challenge into an advantage.

I will give an example in my next post below.

Arnold,

You are the most imaginative creator of threads.

Thank you, Melgar, I think coming up with topics here is like coming up with titles and topics for songs, which I previously did as a songwriter for many years.

Usually, when i'm not thinking about trains, an interesting topic will pop into my head. Then I make a note of it so I don't forget it. I think they come from the subconscious mind, especially when I'm relaxed.

John Lennon of the Beatles said that coming up with good subjects and titles for songs was half the battle in writing songs.

Now back to this particular topic, which I will do below.

My primary obstacle was a modest basement, with tybe usual things in the way, such as the washer dryer and the oil burner.

Now, what I've done is not realistic scale modeling, which is terrific, but rather doing ones best to still have a layout where trainsx go places in a long and narrow space and going around obstacles or make them blend in.

Here is another example. Make a siding for oil tanker train cars where the copper pipes for the hot water baseboard heater  and oil burner are:

My primary obstacle was a basement support post.  The post is not part of a large grain elevator complex and painted to blend in.  Its funny when a person every now and again realizes it.  :-)

LOOK upper left plastic tubing leading into background where grain elevator complex is situated.

Congratulations, John. By making a support post into part of a grain elevator, you have turned the agony of defeat into the  thrill of victory.
