I am sure this has been discussed but my searches did not return the information I was looking for. I now want to update my DCS version 3.10 to the New 4.20 version. I have downloaded and installed the DCS consumer loader 2.30. What I would like to know is:

1. Can the DCS system be updated through Windows 7 with a USB to Serial adapter compatible for 64 bit OS system?
2. Will the DCS system communicate with USB data transfer?
3. If the above two are a “yes” then is the anything other than the USB to Serial adapter and a 1/8” stereo mini to mini required to do so?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to provide.

Just add the serial cable and you should be set.
Some folks have had difficulty with the usb to serial adapters.
Watch your port # as I suspect that is the issue.
We noticed at work that the usb adapters there would only work once per computer boot up talking to a controller we make.
Odd things happen with usb.
Hi TheBigT,

1. Yes, you can use a USB/serial adapter with Win7-64. I highly recommend the Gigaware apapter from RadioShack - #26-949. Several of us on the forum have been using this particular adapter on various OS/DCS hardware combinations.

2. Only the latest Rev. L TIU's can be directly programmed with USB. All earlier TIU's need to be programmed with an RS-232 serial port. Since computers don't come with serial ports anymore, the USB/serial adapters are a good work around. There are also PCI cards available to add a native serial port to a desktop computer.

3. That's all you need for the updating the TIU. You will also need a telephone handset cord (different from the wall cord) to update the remote.
