During the modern era, Lionel thickened the window mullions to cut down on breakage. Off the top of my head, I don't know when they started. I still would avoid picking the locos up by the windows.

I didn't compare them to postwar. The first two locos, which were the CP snowplow (wedge), and Alaska switcher, have relatively thin mullions. The mullions on the 8459 DRG snowplow are much thicker.
