Apologize for reposting but I had buried this question in a different post and didn't get much of a response.  I have a 6-14107 coaling station (solved the hardened grease, stretched out driver band bin problems from forum posts) that I would like to use with fastrack instead of the supplied tubular track.    Have looked through the forum but not found a wiring diagram.   Steve got back to me and said it is possible.   The fastrack fits into the slotted base of the station.   The station is located on a spur so there shouldn't be the reported clearance issues with the station on a main line.  Any help with a wiring diagram to use the included controller for the bin and dump car would be appreciated.   Have tubular track to fastrack couplers if not practical to convert.

Thanks

There are reports that due to any of: too high Voltage, leaving the Uncoupler Coil Energized too long, and/or stuck push-buttons the plastic around the Uncoupler Coil can melt.  Here is one example:

Operating Track Meltdown

To help prevent this from happening with FasTrack Operating Track and Uncouplers, it's recommended to supply them with 12 VAC Auxiliary Power and wire a PTC in series with the Coil.  OGR Forum consensus recommends a Bourns MF-R050Bourns_20MF-R050_2C_20PTC_20Resettable_20Fuse

Here's one example of how to wire it:

First desolder the black wire from the folded tab circled in red:

Operating Track before PTC

Solder the PTC leads as shown below. The white lines represent heat shrink tubing used to insulate the PTC leads.

Operating Track with PTC-mu

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your help with this.   Really appreciated.   One of the accessory tracks I have looks just like the melted one!!!   I assume you add the PTCs to all the accessory tracks not just the one under the coaling platform.

You're welcome.  These PTCs are recommended with FasTrack 5" Uncoupling Track (6-12023) and the 10" FasTrack Operating Track (6-12054) shown above.  They both have essentially the same coil.

@Ted S Thanks.  Good suggestion.

Wow, Steve, that's some great info.  After seeing that photo of the melted track section, I'm surprised Lionel doesn't include this inexpensive PTC for the sake of safety!!

They would rather you have to buy a new uncoupling track piece than put in a low cost PTC to protect the track. Just like why none of the locomotive manufacturers  bother to put in a TVS in their locomotives to protect the circuit boards from getting fried during a derailment. They make more money by us having to buy new boards, if still available, paying labor costs to have them fixed, if possible, or having to buy a new locomotive to replace your now "Shelf Queen". ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ
