Hi Guy's,

I was getting the dreaded "Three Light Flash" in the cab so last night I tried a reset by changing the ID number. Only because it wouldn't take the reset with its original ID due to the fact that I did it too many times. Now I'm just getting idle sounds from the tender with no chuff and no bell sounds (it moves), and no whistle (smoke effect works). Also there is no smoke from the main stack. The fan motor is not working. But I think it's due to the No Name Smoke Fluid I purchased from a well known Lionel dealer.

Does anybody have any idea of what could be wrong. I know it was something I did. It has to be. Everything was working fine till I started using that $&%^&* smoke fluid.

I turn to you once again oh guru's of the three rail world. Lol!

here is what I do to all my legacy engines 3 light flash using cab-2 select the problem engine hit start up once powered up look for a big R in middle row of buttons push it you should get a whistle and light flash saying it accepted that command.

now on cab-2 look for smoke buttons think second row the 2 right buttons now push the furthest right one and across cab-2 screen it will show low another push it will show medium so basically push 3 times to get to the high smoke setting.

on cab-2 left side of buttons push the volume up button to ensure sounds are at highest level.

also the smoke switches wherever they have them on the hudson switch them to off and then on again this will ensure a good contact.

now try the smoke and running of engine again see if all is happy again.

as a side note if smoke fluid gets onto electronics inside the engine it will do these happy little effects and then I leave mine sit for an hour or longer and all seems to be good again.

it is almost as if we need a diaper for all these newer engines!!

also the pipette that was included use it if you look at its tip there is a mark about 1" from it fill it to 3\4" and that will ensure smoke unit doesn't get over filled.

hope this helps.

I stick by my defective fan motor comments I made on your other thread Mike. If the fan motor is defective it doesn'tmatter if you reset it. The locomotive resets after power has been removed for a bit anyway. There is a check for fan motor draw at startup and it will immediatley be shut down when too much draw is detected. I tested the diagnostics on my k4 with the shell off, after I had the three blinks and the smoke unit shutdown I reset or removed power. When the loco smoke unit was turned on or the loco repowered the fan motor would give a short test "zing" of the fan motor, then lights would blink leading to smoke unit shutdown. Replacing the defective fan motor with a new one solved the problem, smoke unit is extremely quite and works perfectly.

As far as the sound goes there are two levels controlled via the remote, the volume up button pressed repeatedly is the overall volume, you'll hear a bell sound with each level change.

Background sounds( includes chuff) are adjusted by pressing AUX1  vol up, AUX1 vol up, Aux1 vol up...... no bell sound with level change.

Try my suggestions first as with Holidays it will take longer to get there and my suggestions just might correct it if it keeps doing it then send back to lionel for repair.

now if smoke shuts down again and the appropriate blinks for smoke stop shut power down as my 765 did it and finally the regulator went bad sent 18 volts to smoke unit and trust me once it does that for more than a minute toss the entire smoke unit away as it got so hot it melted the metal casing where heat elements are and they were glowing bright orange for 3 minutes Sitting off track!!
