I have had good luck in getting warm white color-some call it straw.
Another thought is that that you may be driving it with too high of a voltage. I believe most warm whites run around 1.8-2.2volts at 20ma. Try one of the bulbs on an AA battery with some leads and check the color.
You would need to find a translucent paint to color what you have. Something like this for coloring glass. lemon looks like a possible winner.
In addition to Moonman's suggestions, I believe others here have reported using Sharpies to color their LED's. I think a yellow Sharpie was one color. I have not tried it, but was holding the thought for a future trial at some point.
Carl Thanks for the advice. These bulbs are E5.5 screw type and already have the resistor in them and i run my engine at 8 volts. These suppose to work on 12 to 14 volts.
Yellow will make the bluish shade LED look green, I just tried it on a string I put inside a passenger car.
I think the bluish LEDs are the cool white and the yellowish LEDs are the warm white, at least according to what I see on the Evans Designs site:
I have had good results with Tamiya X-26. It is a clear orange and can be darkened with each coat. I just used it on a ww light strip in a passenger car that wasn't blue, but not quite warm enough. All my ww leds have been 3.4 to 3.6 forward voltage, even the 5 chip ww .5 watt, 100 ma ones I just put in a floodlight tower. I could show pictures, but They usually don't give good comparisons. The item number on the paint is 81026.
I'd just try a different supplier, and also you could look for amber LED's. I've found I can have almost any color shade if I just try a couple options.
Update i put the Evans Design Warm White 5 MM LED's in my Williams B&O EMD NW2 Switcher Engine. Here is a short video.
Hi Jeff, cool demo.
