I remember, when I first started reading OGR, seeing a few layout contests (layout on a door, smallest layout, etc.). Does OGR still do those contests?

Those contests (Layout on a Door Contest, Holiday Layout Contest, and Micro-Layout Contest) were organized by me. OGR graciously allowed the contests to be posted their forum. If there is significant interest in another contest, I would be willing to run one.
Consider me interested.
I'd also be interested. Something on the larger end of the spectrum like the layout on a door or an equivalent square footage. Even then, as a 2-railer, I'd still probably end up with something more like a diorama than a layout. But I'd give it a shot.

I built two mini's inspired by those.
I thought it was a great idea, and I'm still waiting on seeing another
Any of those past themes (Layout on a Door Contest, Holiday Layout Contest, Micro-Layout Contest) could certainly be used again.
Would love, for example, to see more examples of creative small Christmas layouts.
If there is ample participation and proper/ample documentation by the participants, I can assure folks that the winner (and perhaps one or more runners-up) will be published in the pages of the magazine. That earns the published hobbyist $400, and I can likely scrounge up another nice prize or two to sweeten the pot.

If that's the case, I personally have a proposal: film based layouts, not exceeding 24 square feet, that have a theme centered around a movie or TV show (ex: The Lone Ranger, Polar Express, etc.). There would have to be at least one switch and one building involved. I could also throw in a prize possibly, as I have a few extra items hanging around.
I would be interested in participating. The timing is good for me, as our last daughter at home is in the process of moving all her stuff out of the house before her wedding in September. This will free up a room that will be my layout room. Finally a place to spread out and work on a layout after 25 years of the kids slowly taking over the house. I like the Christmas theme, only because I have a lot of winter buildings, etc. But I would welcome a different theme or no theme but the size of the layout as well.

All I need, then, is an American locomotive, an o-scale delorean, and a 24x1 shelf layout with tangent track letting me get to a scale 88mph before the washed out trestle.
