I have been looking for a lionel single strip car one finally came up and I started bidding and it seems someone else is wanting it also. for a single 027 single strip santa fe diner car the price is up to $380.00 is it that rare to see it for sale?

Supply and demand will dictate the final selling price, not necessarily what is fair and what it is worth after the auction. When you have a bidder against you and they really want it, the price can go sky high which is what is happening now.
It depends how much you want this car.
doesnt look like a $380 car to me . if its a "027" car ,that should tell you something......jim
Don't be a FOOL fool.
No O-27 car is worth anywhere near $380! Try other sources, like this forum, major train sellers (like Just Trains odf Delaware), train shows, etc.

$ 40 give or take, $400 will get you a whole set of scale ATSF streamline passenger cars. Thats alot of money for an o-27 car with an MSRP of $64
from what I can tell now I am not perfect at this but this is one of the add on cars there were 3 diner, vista dome, and something else which I can't remember at the moment. I got the vista for 127 a few months ago haven't seen another one since. this one I have been searching for almost a year and this is the first time it has shown up. and the third one I have never seen either other than pics on lionels site. are they that hard to come by ? and if they are could that be the reason for the price. I wanted it bad but this bidding war got crazy. I'm bowing out now but just wondering is this thing rare? I still need two to finish off the set. but for that price I can get a different set of passenger cars.
If you want something, go for it. I needed a rare locomotive to complete my collection, and drove 12 hours and paid $1200. It is worth maybe $600, but I do not regret it.
It was a Lobaugh Cab Forward, drawings dated December 7, 1941.
