The don't look like Budd cars. Could they be Pullman or American Car And Foundry cars perhaps?

I don't think they are modeled after any real car but most likely have a combination of several types of cars. I guess you could classify them as generic passenger cars.
Closer to Pullman Standard. I have a book of Pullman Standard passenger cars and MTH ribbed cars are very close to PS. Definitely not Budd.
MTH has a very poor design for a dining car...appears MTH took a coach and designated it diner...no side "linen' doors or "ice" doors", exhaust fans etc. details that are indicative of a dining car.
