Look at these similar LCRUs, what is the difference? For example:

6108563001 LCRU / RAILSOUNDS 2.5 PLATFORM / NYC GP-9 #2380

6108564106 LCRU / RAILSOUNDS 2.5 PLATFORM / CP GP-9 #2380

6108565106 LCRU / RAILSOUNDS 2.5 PLATFORM / MILW GP-9 #2338

6108567116 LCRU / RAILSOUNDS 2.5 PLATFORM / PRR GP-9 #2028

6108570106 LCRU / RAILSOUNDS 2.5 PLATFORM / B&M GP-9 #2380

6108572106 LCRU / RAILSOUNDS 2.5 PLATFORM / B&M GP-9 #2389

In the examples above, I see what appears to be essentially the same unit. Take the first two on the list, where the only thing different is the road name - In practical terms, what’s the diff? Is the crew talk different? Same thing with the last two where the cab number is the only difference? What’s the diff there??

Thanks Roy, but what I'm after is the exact differences. Do the last two on the list have announcements or crew talk where they actually say the cab number? Do the first two actually say the road name in their crew talk? Etc. I'm guessing (and I assure you, it IS a guess) that these are all LCRU2s, so there are no differences in the hard wiring? Certainly the chips must be different, but what do those differences translate into?

I am still in the newbie stage, owning just two functioning TMCC equipped units, one an FM Trainmaster, the other a GP9, so I'm looking at Lionel's sale coming up in November and am considering purchasing a couple of these to go into my other Pullmore equipped engines - I'd like to know the details.

Thanks!

George,

The difference between these is essentially the sound chipset.

These are all LCRU2's. There might be a difference in the microprocessor code (I think there are four different LCRU2 software revs), but that wouldn't matter to the average user.

Most of these particular soundsets predate the addition of CrewTalk and TowerCom, which debuted in late 1997. In fact, I believe the only ones in the above list that have CtewTalk and TowerCom are the last two B&M GP-9's. The others won't respond to the 2 and 7 keys. Note that all CrewTalk is "unintelligible" from its introduction on RS2.5 through RS4E, whereas the TowerCom in these units was always engine-specific.

I hope this helps.
