I was lubricating my Legacy F3 B non-powered unit (6-34639) and noticed that the screw connecting a wire to the collector pickup is missing. The other flat head screws on the collector are too short to grab the threads. I looked at the Lionel exploded parts diagram  and cannot tell which screw this is. I emailed Lionel customer service this past Monday asking them and have received no response.

Can someone tell me what the Lionel part # is for this? And, if you happen to have an extra I’ll gladly send you a couple bucks for you to mail it. Seems wasteful to spend $10 Lionel shipping charge to get a box with just one thirty cent screw in it.

Its likely the same size as the screw to the right in your picture. Also the other truck should have the same screw holding the chassis ground wire to the truck. I would suggest removing it and measuring it. Most likely metric, 2 or 2.5mm. If the screw from the other truck doesn’t work then the threads in the truck are probably stripped.

Pete, thank you. the flathead screws are not long enough. I did try the similar screw from the other truck and it threads fine. It seems to be 1.6M x.35 thread. But it’s also 5 mm long and the closest I see on the parts diagram is 3 mm long. The flatheads are described as 3mm long but not long enough to thread. I don’t see a 1.6M x.35 thread by 5mm on the parts page.

1.6 is pretty small. I doubt the local hardware store has anything that small. I know Lionel has some 1.6 mm screws but they are hard to find these days. Check out some fan smoke units. Some use 1.6 mm screws. Pan head but those would work here.

Look here.

Here is one that will work.

There is one here. Check out Amazon for more kits.

Perfect! Thank you. I think I will order that Amazon kit, and VERY MUCH appreciate you finding that. It looks like a very handy selection for this and other future needs. I did check local hardware stores as well as a Hobbytown we have nearby. I was happy to see that Hobbytown actually had a nice display of tiny screws, but just not quite tiny enough.

You didn't say whether you suspect the screw was missing at the time of purchase (those wheels would appear to have never run the rails!), or perhaps came loose during operation on your layout.

If the latter, you might try sweeping your right-of-way with a magnet to see what it finds...'attractive'.   I know that can be a bit challenging if your O3R track is typically steel (ferritic, that is).  But if you temporarily attach the magnet to, say, a car in some fashion to hold its position, that might help.  In fact, I'd guess there are some forumites that have done just that who might offer further suggestions.

Amazing, sometimes, the things a ROW sweep will find...magnet, visual, vacuum (small portable with a clean filter).

Just a thought...

Just to close the loop on this. Finally heard back from Lionel. The screw they suggested is clearly not at all the right screw. They said it needed a #3 x 3/4” flathead screw and gave me the number. That number matches the screw used to attach body to frame. I’m disappointed they were so far off.

Luckily, @Chuck Sartor has set me up and the correct screw and parts are inbound.
