I've got a Lionel Fastrack Santa Fe scrap yard, where the guys "cut up" the nose of a Santa Fe F3. Does anyone have any ideas about what else I can add to it? I was thinking about the rear of the rest of that cut up F3 nose, getting a beat up postwar A or B unit cheap, but how realistic would that be? Would a real railroad ever remove or replace just the cab and nose area like that? Turn the A into a B? Scrap an A by removing just the cab/nose first?

What if you made it look like there was an electrical fire in the cab, and cut the cab off the beat up engine?
Neat idea,I'd probably make it look like they were scrapping the entire locomotive, and starting or finishing with the cab area. The fate of most out of service locos. Railroads cut up the entire loco to make it easier to transport to a steel recycler. I assume the return is a bit better as the recycler doesn't have to cut the loco up themselves.
I have mine in proximity to a Gantry crane with metal scrap around it. You could have a flatcar or gondola full of locomotive sides or other parts.
