I got to talking with the family today about certain Lionel engines that have not been made by them. So what would people think if Lionel made a Union Pacific DDA40X and C855? If they did, for the DDA40X, I would love that deep bass sound with two SD40-2 style motor sounds with an RS5T horn sound. Now that would be cool. Also a C855 would be cool as well from Lionel or even MTH.

Didn't Lionel make the DDA40X already? I know the C855 has not been done by anyone yet. That's certainly a unique engine.

Lionel has only produced the EMD DD35A model. MTH has produced the EMD DDA40X. Surprisingly, neither Lionel nor MTH has produced the EMD DD35, which even the SP purchased, thus anyone producing the EMD DD35 could offer them in three different styling & painting versions: 1) EMD Demonstrator, 2) Union Pacific, and 3) Southern Pacific. A smart model company could also offer EMD GP35 units, to accompany all three versions of the DD35.

True, although ALCO produced only three units, i.e. an A, a B, and another A in the Century 855 model designation, and ONLY for the Union Pacific.
Actually, they have made the DD35A in the past.

As I stated above, yes, Lionel that is. However, the DD35A looks NOTHING like a DDA40X, which the original poster was suggesting (note the title of this thread) that Lionel offer.
Sorry Hot Water, I didn't see your comment above mine. My bad...
Just from my visual preference, I prefer the Century 855's B+B-B+B wheel arrangement to the D-D wheel arrangement of the DDA40X.

That's right. Forgot about that one in its prototypical NYC scheme. Of course Athearn cataloged a "DD40" for years that was actually a "DD35" in lots of road names.
Personally, I like the U50 with its pug nose.
I say NO! It's a waste of money and resources. One road( UP) and one paint scheme? Really?
I favor the investment in still popular diesel Locomotives that have yet to be made in 3 rail Scale:
GP40-2 phase 2
GE U18-U36b (modular Body)
MP15 ( Atlas seems to have. Lost their tooling)
BLW S12
ALCO C636
ALCo C430
ALCO T6
And for your WOW factor, the Anglo American/ROHR turboliner that can be done in 7 paint Schemes plus the Sncf french scheme for European sales.

Yes, I was going to mention earlier about with what people mention about the DD35A. The only thing, the DDA40X & DD35A are different looking in my opinion. The length of both units are differnt. The body style might look the same, but not the front. Etc.
As to what PRRHorse says, yes those would be cool as well to see, but I was just saying about if Lionel would make a DDA40X & C855. Now a C855 has never been made before by any 3-rail manufacturer. But thank you in regards to answering the question I ask, which is No. That's fine. Also thanks Terry for anwsering the question.
Thanks Jack - Hot Water for helping out.
And yes, a DD35A looks similar, but the styles of both units are different. Plus the DDA40X was 1,600 hp more powerful then the DD35A.
I'd love a Legacy DDA40X or even a reissue of the DD35A since I missed it the 1st time around.

Thanks. And yes, I wish Lionel would reissue the DD35A also, but in more fantasy paint scheme. I wouldn't mind a SF Warbonnet DD35A. Also an EMD Demo paint on the DD35A I'm very surprised Lionel didn't do on the first run.

I am in for the C855. And while they are at it, why not use the chassis for a U-50? I have the MTH U-50C but would also love to have a U-50. Love the BB-BB arrangement.
And while we are talking about unique engines why not the diesel-hydraulic members of the SP family? Alco DH643 and Krauss Maffei ML-4000 before and after rebuilding!

After the UP DDA40X was in a wreck in LA, it was repaired, and has the winged nose. Hence at least 2 for the UP.

FWIW I can't see Lionel issuing a DDA40X when MTH has done three issues already and the PS2 and PS3 versions are very nice models indeed. Probably Lionel would do the sound better but I can't see them being keen on competing with MTH's offerings. The original issue included at least one fantasy "warbonnet" scheme (just try finding one of them however); I think that MTH also offered a dummy version.
The DD35A's a different matter for Lionel but I found the detail/operating features of them a little disappointing.
