I tried to set up my new wifi unit this evening - pretty straightforward.

First I tried the home network.  ....white WPS LED never stopped blinking and went steady  (10 minutes or so)  Should it take that long?  Therefore it never found the TIU

Second I tried to go MTH network.  I did make connection but when tried to add engine with app it would not do anything....the screen kinda blinked at me.

I am going to start from the beginning tomorrow...anything obviously I am missing?

You need to be sure that both the app and the firmware in the WIU are both version 1.1. If not, you will absolutely have big problems using the app.

The app should already be at version 1.1 if you either downloaded it recently (past few months) or you have your smartphone/tablet set to auto-update all of your apps.

The WiFi unit, however, may still be at version 1.1, depending on when you purchased it and how long it sat on a dealer's shelf before the purchase.

Okay back in the train room after fighting off a hurricane and painting my daughter's bedroom.

1.  antenna is attached to module

2.  MTH/home selector switch is set to HOME

3.  applied power to TIU - red light on TIU comes on

4.  applied power to the WIU - Only Power and TIU light are on....WI-FI light comes on for a couple of seconds then goes off.

verified wi fi is on in the house...i pad is connected in train room.

5. pressed WPS button home WiFI router

6.  then pressed wPs button on wifi module  -  WPS white LED is blinking - blinking lasts for over four minutes....turned off TIU and WIFI unit to start over using MTH WIFI

MY engines have gone inactive since the last session why is that?  Don't know how to activate without deleting and adding again?

After deleting engines....was able to add back and start up.

WI FI, power and TIU light are all on.

So - works fine if using MTH wifi - but not home wifi?

Still cannot operate on my home network.   However my more pressing issue when I am done with an operating session, the next time I go back the engine shows inactive I have to delete and re add

i dont understand why it goes to inactive?   And two, how do I move from inactive to active without deleting and adding it back

That's the way the wifi works.  I have been told that if you don't shut down the app in the smartphone or tablet, locos will stay active.  If you shut it down, your have to do a read to restore the locos to the active list.  This is a real PITA, as I run 25 DCS locos, and not all are powered up each session.  One of the reasons I usually use the remotes.
