I was thinking of replacing the existing markers with Evan Designs LED's...Looking at the web site, it seems that the 1.8mm size would work well. I looked at the 3mm and they seem too big. Has anyone done this replacement on their engines???

I haven't done the mod, but intend to at some time. You are correct, the 1.8mm is the way to go, the 3mm will be way too big and bright. I'm a big fan of Evan Design, my latest supply just arrived.
I just did my Conrail scale GG-1 and I tried the fairly new chip lights in red and glued them on the back of the existing lens. There are 2 sides to the marker lights on the G's and the chip light shines threw the lens with a very nice illumination to the markers. Not a very easy install given the small size of the chips especially with big paws like mine! The chip gives off an amazing amount of light given it's size. Most other diesel's I use the 1.8 markers and go with a 3mm headlight "warm white"
With the GG-1 I went with the larger 5mm for the headlight and that with the marker lights makes a huge difference in the appearance of the engine.
Chris, thanks for the information on the LED chip lights. I was looking to upgrade a couple of Williams/WBB products (FA's, E7's, BL2's) and considered just sliding out the as made lens and replacing that with a similarly sized Evan Designs 1.8 or 3.0mm LED but the LED chip behind the existing lens option is something new to consider.
No problem. Here are a couple of examples sorry about the blurry photo but you get the picture!
Here is a Geep with 2/ 3.mm soft white headlights and 2/green 1.8 and a tinplate"Before and after" observation car with 2/3.mm reds.
Since the existing lenses are red, would you use the red or warm white chip lites???
But if you wanted white or green markers, then you would have to use the 1.8mm leds???

Chris, did you mount the green 1.8mm LED's behind the Williams' lens or did you replace the lens with the LED's?
