Here's one for you guys to puzzle over.  Last week, I purchased a Williams Southern E7 AA set for my grandson from an annoying ebay vendor (I have posted about this earlier).  I also decided I wanted another for myself, and bought the same set from Trainworld - it arrived today.  The first set I bought, came with "gray" instead of white, which we theorized was the "imitation aluminum duco" color that the Southern E7's were initially delivered with.  But the second set is white - the way I prefer it!

Anyone have any clue what the deal is?  I can tell you that the first (gray) set I bought was made 4 or 5 yrs ago before Williams was bought by Bachmann.  Also, can anyone give me an explanation why BOTH of them have TWO stripes down the side? Any pic of a Southern engine I have seen shows only one stripe!

Just something to keep you guys busy - I have to get back to opening my other Williams engines!

Could be the factory paint color was different on each run of the engines in question.

If both engines were from the same run, then somebody re-painted it. On Williams the only way to tell if an engine is from the same run is to look at the circuit board numbers, and the details on the circuit board.

What the manufacturer means by a run is the same time frame for something, per say, was it made in May of 2000 or was it made in May of 2003? Each would be a different run according to the way companies do things, so a detail such as a hood being painted a different shade will not surprise me.

They were delivered from EMD that way.

I wasn't able to locate a picture of an E7, but here's one of an F3:

And one of an E6:

Rusty - thanks for that pic!

I wouldn't worry about the difference in shade if the engine is otherwise okay.

Dewey  - not worried at all - I kinda LIKE that I have the two colors
