Looks like I was wrong.  Only one is needed.  Apparently the shoes on your car are positioned next to each other and not at the ends like a traditional operating car:

Thanks for the Lionel OTC drawings.  I plan to use the version for a Lionel #90 pushbutton as the activator.

My layout is wired with TMCC, so 18v is applied to the rails all the time.  Not too much voltage for the Log Dump Car, I hope; the button is only pressed momentarily.

Yes.  You're right on target.

Don't hold the button down for an extended period of time, especially with 18 VAC feeding it, maybe more that 10 secs at a time max, without first letting it cool down in-between button-pushes.

The electromagnet inside the car will quickly get warm, and then hot, otherwise.
