To quote the beach boys, "Wouldn't it be nice" if everything was changed over to USB interface. I get my head swirling just thinking about all the different cables and adapters I need to accomplish somethings with Legacy. Also have to keep that super old PC around just to write to the black chip once in a while.

Yes it would. I have no serial ports on anything any more. Purchased a USB to serial cable a while back for my long awaited Legacy 990 set. Now I have waited so long for the 990 I can't find the cable! Found the disc that came with it, but no cable. Gotta be here somewhere...
I bought an adaptor with the driver but it didn't work. Had to dig up a very old PC.

Well you think that's an issue, wait until you see what Lionel has cooked up for their LCS system. All the cables to connect the components are proprietary. You have to buy them from Lionel. You can't make your own without very expensive equipment and they are not cheap.

I've got a QVS USB to serial port with the driver CD new never used. $10.00 shipped if anyone is interested.
I use the CAB1L and have no use for it.
