Would you like a throttle momentum feature in 3 rail for more realistic starts and stops for your trains?

Paul,

Once again I moved your post from the 3RS forum to this forum. Please be aware of what forum your posting in. Most of the subjects you have posted about are better suited to this forum, not the 3RS forum.

Lionchief Plus locos also have a bit of this, although not realistic.

It would be a nice feature for conventional operation on say, a ZW-L.  I would prefer it be adjustable - I had it in N years and years ago but seldom used it because it was not adjustable, and as fixed, it took far too long to start a train or slow it down, realistic as it may have been.

Edit: on reflection I see why you posted this originally is the 3RS forum.  They are are two rail but more devoted to authentic operation than O-27.  Makes sense to me.

Back when I was into N and HO, part of my hobby was to build my own transformers, and I added momentum and pulse power and such.

With O, I am happy with turning the throttle up gradually.   As Lee mentioned, the LC+ locos have a feature for gradual speed changes.   The CW-80 has a bit of the same effect, which I use for my conventional locos.

So I guess I don't need this for my conventional locos or for my LC+.

If you were in the hobby in the mid 90's. The Al Trol walk around throttle had a momentum feature. Worked pretty good in it's day before command and speed control. You could dial up the momentum on the throttle using a pot control. The whole walk around throttle was about the size of a pack of cigarettes. Was sort of cutting edge when it was introduced. Although it had a plug in tether you could walk around the layout.

Would you like a throttle momentum feature in 3 rail for more realistic starts and stops for your trains?

I guess I'm more confused than ever. In my mind, 3-rail scale is ANYTHING that is scale. Or a performance feature that increases the realism to more scale operation, such as a throttle momentum feature. Knuckle couplers or Kadee's doesn't matter... if I put Kadee's on my 027 cars, would they become scale? I think not. When the Hi Rail term first was coined, it had nothing to do with scale proportion.

I don't know why, but to me Paul, it sounds like you posted in the right place originally. In my thinking, many of the topics in this particular forum would be more suited to the 3RS forum, so the fact Rich Melvin has moved some back... Oh well, now I'm really perplexed.

A guess, but I think if the title was more specific it may not have been moved.

The term 3 rail scale is not in the title or subject. An editor would hate that, and want to reclassify it.

"Would you like a throttle momentum feature in 3 rail scale"

"Would you like a throttle momentum feature in 3 rail scale for more realistic starts and stops for your trains?"

All better.

Now if I could only spell well
