Fantastic picture!! Like a step back into history. And a telegraph pole on the left. Once
a common sight, now has to be hunted down.
Very cool!!
That is a perfect photograph. There is not one tiny element you could change to improve it. Perfect composition, perfect subject, perfect color. Somebody knows what he is doing.
WOW A GRAET PICTURE. I bet Rich has not seen this one yeat!!
Simply beautiful.

Seen it? I was THERE!
I was running the 765 for this photo. It was the first shot of the day for a private Photo Charter on the Great Lakes Central up in the Owosso, Michigan area.
We are headed west and it is just a few moments after sunrise. It is a cool morning, about 50 degrees as I recall. Love all that backlit steam!
Is it possible to get a copy of this photo?
Definitely would rank among the best steam photos I have ever seen. A whole lot of great things going for it, including composition, lighting, timing, and a number of other factors. I would LOVE to have a 20x24 or so framed enlargement of that one hanging at home!
Wonderful picture. Good reason for us all to love steam engines.

It's been posted before and is worth seeing again.
I downloaded a low resolution copy on in PC on 10/17/09.

PURE MICHIGAN
...sorry I couldn't resist.
Awesome photo above at sunrise. I was happening to look up the 765 on Railpictures.net and found this picture. Here's the link http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=438042&nseq=33 I do have to say, I don't know which picture is better. There both superb.
My personal opinion is, the sunrise photo, posted above is by far the better shot of the two because:
1) it is truly timeless.
2) it does NOT have a person standing on the right-of-way, albeit behind the signal box.
3) it has NO utility poles, nor other scenic "clutter" in the background.
Wow just beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting
Alex

Having been a photo editor and photojournalist for much of my professional life, I would have to agree with Hot Water on this. Although both photos are superb, if I had to select just one of the two, my vote would go to the sunrise photo referenced in the initial post.
I could give a number of reasons for my choice, but the main one I have always followed in selecting from a number of excellent images is simply based on gut feeling...immediate stopping power and impact that just grabs the attention and makes one image stand out.
It does not get better then that, now my new desktop.
Whoa.
As a diesel guy I still have to say,
NICE SHOT!
That would be cool if you could get that done up as a wall poster.
Maybe a different topic but I just came across this:
http://www.fathead.com/model-t...er-train/?src=search
I wanted a SD70ACe coming at me (on the wall).
I need my own pic first to have them make it. Anyway I could get onto property to take the pic??
I may need a train event??
Sweet...and the 1st thing that hit me was the old mosquito fogger trucks we used to follow....I'd follow this bad boy all night!
One of the nicest if not THE nicest steam picture I have seen....just breath taking!
Alan
The ONLY way it could be better is if it passed right by my little patch of clay - and the steam was mostly mosquito repellent. Oh..wait...that is two ways......
