Good Day,
I’d like a grain elevator structure in 3D. A modular structure would allow customization for creating a small to large elevator. These would be great for the back wall of a layout and would not take up space.

All of mine are in 3D, but they have footprints like BIG FOOT! You are looking for a
background facade model, not just a flat sheet print, I think. I might have seen one
offered in HO, which won't help.
This one has PVC pipes cut in half on the bandsaw. I needed to make it quite a bit undersize to fit available space.
The Korber kit is a nice size and comes with bins already cut in half which allows it to be fitted into a narrow space against the backdrop. Plus they are an OGR forum sponsor.

Jim Policastro: Since the poster is showing a very large elevator print, and I am unfamiliar with that Korber model, if kit silos come in two halves, can both be used, one on each side of the tower..or an extension to one side or the other (and get a larger structure and your money's worth out of the kit)?
Just posted these on the Sunday Showcase thread but I will repeat here. Frank, love the drawings!
You guys are correct...these granarys take up a lot of space. I built this one and another one for Ingenerio No.1 out of PVC pipe and foamcore. The detailed piping (sliver) was built by my good buddy Alex Muller referenced above.

coloradohirailer....I am sure Jim will chime in on your question but since I was just posting I noticed your query. Yes, the silos can be used in the way you suggest. I have seen several instances on layouts where the modeler used the half sections against the wall and built a huge 3-D backdrop. To be honest, since the silos in the kit are around 3 inches in diameter (or so), you can just put the assembled silo against the wall without using the half sections if you want something smaller in size. That is if you have the room....otherwise using the half sections works great.

A friend of mine just bought the kit. He mentioned the fact that silos came in halves. I'm not sure of the total number or if all are in halves.
I'm sure the pipes supplied are a standard size, so increasing their number, if desired, should just involve a trip to HD (and maybe a friend with a bandsaw).
As Alan's photos show, it's the extra details that can really make or break a grain complex, but at the cost of the overall footprint size.

Rich,
Thanks for clearing that up. If I can find the real estate, I may just have to upgrade my grain facilities when the kits become available.

Bachmann is making HO Scale detailed backdrop buildings. Perhaps Bachmann would make the Grain Elevator in N, HO, and O scale.

If CSX Al is reading this, maybe he could chime in. I remember a real neat silo complex (half) on his back wall. Looked similar to what Jim showed. I actually think that it may have been an old Korber kit, but I also remember some mention of PVC in that thread as well.
